We disagree,” the nine Democrats said in the letter. “Because the livelihoods of hard-working American families are threatened, we simply cannot afford months of unnecessary delays and risk wasting this once-in-a-century bipartisan infrastructure package.”
The organization added: “We will not consider voting on budget resolutions until the bipartisan infrastructure investment and employment bill is passed by the House of Representatives and signed into law.”
The nine Democrats who signed the letter are Rep. Josh Gottheimer, DN.J.; Jared Golden, Maine. Carolyn Bourdeaux, D-Ga. Filemon Vela, Texas; Henry Cuellar, Texas; Vicente Gonzalez, Texas; Ed Case, D-Hawaii; Jim Costa, California; and Kurt Schrader, D-Ore.
Since the House of Representatives has very little partisanship, this is enough to prevent Pelosi from acting in her way. Pelosi needs a settlement to pass the spending plan, so she needs every Democratic vote she can get, and all Republicans may vote against it. She can only afford to lose three votes, so if they hold them, she will climb a creek without oars.
At the same time, left-wingers like Rep. Alexander Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said that if the spending plan does not pass, they will not pass the infrastructure bill.
“For three months, we have been very clear that unless a settlement is passed, we will not vote for a bipartisan package that includes sufficient funding for our five priorities,” Rep. Pramila Jayapar (D-Wash.), the head of the Congressional Progress Caucus told reporters earlier this month.
