Design and Features
The Monoprice Monolith M1000ANC Bluetooth Headphones have everything I need. One of my main requirements is to be able to use them wired or wirelessly. I don’t always want to go through the hassle of pairing or unpairing a Bluetooth connection. The included 4ft 3.5mm audio cable is compact and always welcome when it comes with the product.
My second requirement for headphones (and pretty much any device these days) is a USB Type-C charging port. I even refuse to use Micro-USB devices unless I have no choice. The included 20″ USB-A to USB-C cable might be short for some, but I have others if needed. The included cable is perfect for my use.
My third requirement is Active Noise Cancellation. I have a good sound system on my computer, but when I want to use headphones, I want to block out all external sounds. The Monoprice Monolith M1000ANC Bluetooth Headphones do this well. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Qualcomm cVc echo cancellation and noise suppression keep music and phone calls clear, but filter out unwanted noise. The ANC worked so well that it even filtered out the fan noise from the computer next to me. ANC uses internal and external microphones to eliminate a wider range of low and mid-frequency noise. The ANC switch has 3 positions, high, off and low. High ANC noise reduction up to 35dB, low ANC noise reduction up to 20dB.
Monoprice advertises Dirac Virtuo Spatial as “…providing an immersive sound experience by creating a spacious, natural soundscape, with accurate sound localization, beyond the physical confines of the sound system.” I can definitely notice Dai The difference in sound when Lark is turned on.
One of my favorite features of the Monoprice Monolith M1000ANC Bluetooth Headphones is the Conversation/Ambient Mode. Just place your palm on the right earcup to lower the volume so you can hear conversations and sounds around you. This feature makes it easy to have quick conversations without removing your headphones or messing with your volume settings. I’m not sure about the exact volume reduction, but it has to be close to 95% or more; I can barely hear my music in this mode.
Battery life isn’t usually the most important thing to me, as long as I can get 8 hours or more, I’m happy. Monolith can play up to 60 hours on a single charge. With ANC enabled, the playback time was reduced to 40 hours – still enough for me. Need a quick battery boost? Just 5 minutes of charging provides 2 hours of playtime!
So what about comfort? I am very impressed with these headphones. The ear cups fit nicely and the padded headband is just right. Ample adjustment of 1.25″ (32mm) per side ensures they’re just right. The earcups also fold inward and rotate about 95 degrees.
Maximum volume (measured by the decibels app on the iPhone and audio playing on YouTube Music) is about 85dB. For me, that’s more than enough, since that’s pretty much a safe level for listening.
The Monoprice Monolith M1000ANC Bluetooth Headphones have typical tap/swipe play controls for play, pause, next track, previous track and volume up/down. It also implements the typical tap/swipe to play controls for answering/ending calls, rejecting calls, holding and switching between calls.
what do I like
- Active Noise Cancellation
- USB Type-C charging
- Well-fitting memory foam earpads
- Dialogue mode
what would i change
- I prefer sliding the on/off switch instead of holding down the button.
final thoughts
I am very happy with the Monoprice Monolith M1000ANC Bluetooth Headphones. The sound quality is great and the noise reduction is exactly what I needed. I’ve had a few Monoprice products in the past, and so far I’m happy with all of them.
