The intensive care beds are occupied by patients with new crown virus, and the incidence rate has further increased: the infection rate in Hessen is at a very high level. According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Hessen State Clinic recently took care of 229 COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit.
Locally, the capacity limit has been reached, for example at the university clinic in Giessen. This does not only apply to intensive care beds for Covid patients. 691 beds in the general ward of Hessen were occupied by people who were confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus (591) or suspected of being infected. This is also a new high for the fourth wave.
Hospitalization rate has stagnated

The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine Divi talked about 222 corona patients in intensive care beds on Monday, but countries where it regularly reports data below the guideline value; this is evidenced by a different counting method.
According to the ministry, the second benchmark, the so-called hospitalization rate, is 3.8 and is at a standstill. It reflects the number of newly admitted patients with coronavirus in a week and the corresponding number of suspected cases in the clinic. The threshold is eight, and so far it has not even come close to being reached. Nevertheless, as experts have warned, many clinics have reached their limits.
“Unvaccinated epidemic”
67.8% of patients treated for Covid-19 in the Hessian intensive care unit were only partially vaccinated or not vaccinated at all, confirming the phrase “unvaccinated epidemic”. 29.4% of people were fully vaccinated. This is increasingly related to the weakening of the vaccine’s effectiveness after a few months, and in many cases to the fact that people are unable to develop adequate immune protection due to other diseases or because their immune system is suppressed by drugs.. 2.8% of vaccination status is unknown.
There has been little progress in vaccination rates. According to the state report, 66.7% of the population of Hessen was vaccinated, and the vaccination rate of the population over 12 years old was 75.1%. Experts believe that it takes 85% to 90% to break the fourth wave.
As the Ministry of Health also reported, after the PCR test was positive, the health authorities of Hessen recorded 722 new infections overnight. After 583 times a week ago, there were only 163 times four weeks ago. There is also a death related to Covid-19. The 7-day incidence rose to nearly 185 cases. Of the 100,000 residents registered in a week, Offenbach had the most cases at 312.5, ahead of Frankfurt’s 268 cases and Odenwald’s 267 cases.
