My blog is on holiday – William Mitchell – Modern Monetary Theory


Today is a holiday in Australia and I’m using the time to finish a major project so I can start my next (few) projects! I also released episode 4 of my new podcast today. I’m listening to music so I can share it with you.

I discuss a common misconception that as “taxpayers” we provide the government with the necessary funds to be able to spend.

The idea that access to better government services and infrastructure needs to be offset by cuts in public spending and/or higher taxes is a fiction and prevents governments from taking necessary actions to address today’s grand challenges.

This piece is part of the concerto—— Concerts in Aranjuez – written by – Jocakin Rodrigo – 1939 classical guitar.

A notable part of the concerto is that Rodrigo is nearly blind and cannot play the guitar (he is a pianist).

While this is one of my favorite albums, and has been since I bought it in the early 1970s, music critics criticized it for not being jazzy enough.

Unfortunately, they missed the point.
