Southern authorities France Officials said that a group of nine wolves had temporarily closed a zoo after escaping from the enclosure during the visit.
No one was injured in the incident at the Trois Vallées Zoo in Montredon-Labessonnié in the southwestern part of Tarn last weekend, but 4 wolves were shot and killed by park staff and 5 were killed by the locals at the scene. Official Fabien Chollet was under anesthesia, a local official told AFP on Friday.
Chollet said: “There were not many people in the zoo at the time, and the public was not in direct danger.” However, safety issues meant that the zoo needed to be closed until the problem was corrected, he added.
The owner of the park, Sauveur Ferrara (Sauveur Ferrara) said that the wolves who came to the attraction recently escaped after destroying safety facilities, but never left the zoo itself.
“Due to the abnormal and dangerous behavior of some of them, the four wolves were sorrowfully killed by the park staff,” he said, emphasizing that the public had immediately evacuated from the park.
In October 2020, the zoo was ordered to close due to safety measures, but the court later cancelled the closing order. The park’s social media page stated that it plans to reopen in mid-January.
