Nobu Portman Square Review: A stylish new hotel from sushi connoisseurs

I

If you are serious about sashimi, then any new outpost of the iconic sushi brand Nobu will undoubtedly be your feast list.

When chefs Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and filmmaker Meir Teper announced that Nobu’s 13th hotel in the world would be located in Portman Square, London, which is located in the heart of the affluent Marylebone, a short distance from the bars of New Quebec Street And boutiques are just a short walk away. Only a stone’s throw away from Selfridge’s, bookings are rapidly increasing.

The stylish new hotel and restaurant with 249 bedrooms designed by David Collins Studio represents the relocation of Nob Berkeley Street, but its first launch in December 2020 was unexpectedly short, as the hotel was a few days after our launch Inside was forced to close into Lockdown 3.0.

Now, with the doors proudly reopening, the venue is lively again, and just launched a smart new gin terrace and exquisite health products, Nobu Pilates-the brand’s first global debut.

Step into the light-filled double-storey lobby, above the lobby is a 7-meter dynamic silver sculpture created by British artist Ivan Black, which plays under the lights all day-you already feel calmer due to the minimalist Japanese style of Zen design. In soft and delicate neutral tones-think gray, cream and brown-the decor is simple but equally influential.

Stroll to the lobby lounge, which is centered on the Art Deco style bar, which serves a variety of healthy sake, whiskey and gin. You will notice more colors, especially green tones, to reflect the green overlooking the square.

The party atmosphere begins when you arrive at the dark Nobu Bar (also on the first floor) featuring traditional Japanese indigo tiles and atmospheric table lamps. Upstairs, the huge new open Nobu restaurant can accommodate 192 guests at night.

Food and drink

On the food, because that is obviously the reason you are here. I don’t know where to start the iconic Japanese-Peruvian fusion menu now. We are obsessed with the chef’s tasting menu, shoveling the more ridiculous rock shrimp tempura, drooling over the miso black cod melted in our mouth, and marveling The simple and pure taste of spinach salad with truffles and juicy chunks of lobster-can be said to be the star of the show.

The atmosphere is also conveyed. When we visited this restaurant in December, it was definitely crowded, dim, interesting and charming. A few months later, on the second visit to the newly opened terrace, which should serve authentic Haru (Japanese Spring), we ate more signature Nobu dishes, which might be washed by too much Roku gin Done-the impeccable service exceeds the rest at night.

health

The unique Nobu Pilates in Portman Square is led by the talented Marsha Lindsay. As the creative director of Nobu Pilates, she meticulously planned three energetic exercises with different focuses. Choose Power, which is a HIIT-style Pilates class with a mini trampoline attached to the end of the carriage and involves seemingly difficult choreographed jumps to increase strength and stretch muscles; Precision, whether it is the upper body or the lower body, is both A course that can shape and lengthen limbs; or Pure, which is the closest to the original Joseph Pilates course, which combines a reforming frame, a tower, and a chair to help you build a rock-solid core. The impressive fitness space, with a spacious and airy reformer studio and gym, also operates as a fitness space for members-although non-members can also attend classes.

At least we have one in one of our bedroom suites, which is a very special place to sip my Japanese morning tea in a stylish yukata robe in the hotel, overlooking the rooftops of Marylebone (by the way, I will Spend a lot of money to keep). The guest room maintains a simple theme. The king bed is equipped with a leather headboard and refreshing white linen sheets (400 threads, no less than). The spacious marble bathroom is equipped with a huge bathtub and walk-in shower, as well as all cute little ones.
