review – The only thing I like more than a gadget that does two things well is a gadget that does two things well! The $36.99 Ocoopa Hand Warmer does just that…warms your hands. But it also doubles as a 10,000 mAh power bank with 2 output ports to charge 2 devices simultaneously. This is a gadget I never knew I needed. Let’s dig a little deeper.

Design and Features
Therefore, Ocoopa is easy to hold. Its top half is narrower than the bottom half, so it fits nicely in the hand. I guess you could say it’s as tall as those 8 oz water bottles, but it’s only half as thick. It is rounded on all four sides and covered with a soft-touch matte silicone coating on the front, back and sides. There is a notch on the side if you want to use a lanyard (I didn’t). On the wider end of the device, you’ll see 3 ports. There’s a USB-A port in the middle, and a Micro-USB and USB-C port on either side. Micro-USB and USB-C ports can be used to charge the Ocoopa. The USB-A interface offers up to Power Delivery 2.0 speed output, which is great. The USB-C port can also provide output. So there are 2 ways to charge, and 2 ways to charge the device at the same time.
Above the ports at the top of Ocoopa, you’ll see a button. If you double-click it, the 3 LEDs will light up blue to show the remaining power. If you hold down the button, you will turn on the heat function to the first heat level, and a single press will cycle through 3 heat levels. Finally, it comes with a cloth bag to carry it around, but I use this thing so much that I end up not putting it in the bag.
Performance
My phone is a Google Pixel 3, and it comes with an 18W charger that gives me Power Delivery 2.0 speeds while charging, so Ocoopa charges my phone as well as I do at home, which is great. Of course, if you’re using the Ocoopa as a power bank, the heating function will have less power. When I use it simply as a hand warmer on the lowest setting, I can use it for a few days from it. I’ve never used it for hours on end with the heater running. I use it while watching a movie (my wife keeps the temperature low in the house so my hands get cold!), or in the car on the go, or when I’m walking the dog. I think the manufacturer’s claim that you can get 8-15 hours of usage is pretty accurate. I would say using it the way I use it i.e. off and on for short periods of time, I’m getting closer to 8-10 hours of usage. Using my 18W charger, I can charge the Ocoopa within 3-4 hours of what they claim to need.
I recently used the Ocoopa on a ski trip to Colorado, and as a gift I bought one for all the family I went with. It is a lifesaver for all of us. We use it when we take the elevator up the hill, have lunch on the hill, and walk around town at night. Since the Ocoopa heats up on both sides of the unit, your hands will get hot quickly, and you can even sandwich it between your hands as you snap them together. This is awesome. In fact, I found that the first heat level was enough for me. Levels 2 and 3 are too hot for me. If I’m camping in cold or frigid temperatures, I’ll probably see how useful those hotter settings might be, but the first level is good enough for my needs. I’ve seen comments from other people that the max temp setting is too hot for them, and that setting obviously requires my battery to sustain, so I’d avoid that.

final thoughts
I don’t think you can have too many power banks. So having a power bank that you can use to warm your hands in a pinch is a big plus. The $36.99 price was obvious to me. You should buy these as gifts for someone who can use them.
