Design and features

Olight Open Pro is available in black or blue smooth anodized aluminum finish. The barrel has a curved groove to provide grip when writing or using the pen as a laser pointer.

The brand is a bit more than I like, but this does not detract from the function of the pen itself.

In the hands, Olight Open Pro has a certain weight. For more than a year, I have been using Uniball Signo gel pen as my daily writing tool, Open in my hand definitely feels heavy and a bit top-heavy.

pen

This pen has a bolt action mechanism, which can not only retract the writing tip, but also control the laser pointer and the flashlight built into the pocket holder.

Green laser

Open has a green laser pointer located in the top cover.

To activate and deactivate it, you can slide and hold the bolt on the barrel. The laser spot is bright green, and it is easy to see even if you point it at a very large room.

Built-in flashlight

Olight Open Pro’s flashlight is built into the pen’s pocket holder, just like a laser pointer, it is controlled by the bolt action slider switch on the pen barrel. Swipe up quickly to activate and deactivate the light, while sliding and holding the bolt when the light is on, while cycling between 4 brightness settings. Please note that the pen will not remember the last brightness level used and will always default to the lowest brightness setting.

At first, I thought this was a strange location for a flashlight, but the top of the pen was unscrewed from the barrel and can be used separately from the pen if needed.

At a maximum brightness of 120 lumens, this flashlight is very bright for this multitasking device. If you are lost in the woods, it will not make you feel confident, but it is very suitable for spontaneous daily tasks, you need a flashlight, and there is exactly one in your pocket. Speaking of this, the pocket clip position of the lamp can indeed be conveniently clipped to the edge of a pocket or hat for hands-free use.

Unscrew the top of the pen from the barrel, you can see a USB-C charging port and a small button. This button allows you to control the laser pointer and flashlight in the same way as the bolt action slider.

what do I like

  • Well made
  • Built-in laser and flashlight
  • chargeable

What will i change

Final thoughts

They did a great job with Olight’s first pen flashlight. The Olight Open Pro EDC penlight is a well-made pen that not only has attractive writing tools, but also has a laser pointer and a flashlight. The fact that it is rechargeable is also good. This pen can accomplish three things and is a good choice for new members of the EDC equipment series.
