Pan Shou’an resigned in August

Seattle College (SC) President Pan Shou’an announced on May 12 that he would be stepping down on August 1 — two years before his contract expires in 2024.

The university system’s board of trustees voted to terminate the contract early, reaching an agreement with Pan, who said in March he had started looking for work elsewhere. He was a finalist this spring to lead Portland Community College, but was not selected.

“Given his career goals and the end of the school year, we collectively believe it’s time for change,” the trustees wrote in an email to Seattle Academy faculty.

Pan joined SC in 2016. Previously, he spent eight years at Mesa Community College in Arizona.

Pan wrote to the advisory committee via email, “I assure the board that I will continue to work hard for the remainder of my tenure as president to help Seattle University advance its critical work to strengthen its stability and sustainability.”

His announcement comes as the Seattle college system faces major upheaval as the three schools face multi-million dollar budget shortfalls.
