Bellevue Newport High School Team 2, 2022 U.S. Rocket Challenge National Champions
Bellevue’s Newport High School Team 2 was crowned national champions on May 14 at the US Rocket Challenge, the largest student rocket competition in the world.
In total, 724 teams from 41 states participated in the 2022 USA Rocket Challenge. The students will now represent the United States at the International Rocket Challenge at the Farnborough Airshow outside London in July.
Captain Arthur Gwozdz, 17, said: “Our advisors and mentors supported us along the way. I’m proud of the team and what we’ve achieved.”
In addition to Gwozdz, members of the winning team include Samuel Chen, Rita Liu, Rose Liu, Brandon Luo, Ethan Luo, Kavin Manivasagam, Vanu Rao, Shreyas Subramanian and Minghan Sun. The runner-up in the national finals was also the Newport High School team.
