Review – I believe that every struggling actor who is not waiting in Los Angeles is a headshot photographer. However, like a five-year-old kid, trying to put them together to take a real headshot is too much for me At the same time, I also think that you are your own best PR person, so you should still prepare a decent picture in case you need it. When I saw PortraitPro Studio Max 21 as “the easiest portrait enhancement software in the world”, I thought “well, we will see it!”

Design and features

First of all admit: I am definitely not a professional in photo editing software. Somehow, I got a master’s degree in journalism without actually learning Photoshop, and I think this makes me qualified to review this software. I mean, they attach great importance to the difficulty of learning, and I basically start from scratch. I find it really simple-they really make learning easy. The result is also very cool!

The software is downloaded and installed like any other software. When you open the program for the first time, a series of videos and prescribed tutorials will guide you to retouch some of the built-in photos. There are many things to learn. I haven’t read through every tutorial, but I have completed enough basic knowledge. You can repeat the tutorial completely or partly as needed. I had to go back and figure out how to replace the sky in the photo because I don’t remember the steps, and I was able to find that tutorial and easily jump to the part I needed.

When I first started working on my photos, the first thing you did (or at least I did) was to drag the face points to where they needed to be. The software outlines your characteristics, but it does not seem to be able to read my face shape or eyebrow shape very well. I want to solve this problem because this is how the software determines what it enhances. For example, I can use the software to darken my eyebrows, but if it doesn’t know where my eyebrows start and end, it may not do the best job. To do this, you just need to drag and drop the little purple boxes where they should be.

The software has the ability to make up, change the shape of the face, shape the facial features, and basically “fix” anything you find unpleasant. It can also change the background, replacing a series of more dramatic backgrounds, such as different kinds of sky and patterns.

In these photos, I used a few selfies to comment on the wearable air conditioner that I am also working on. I think I look good in them, but there is almost always room for improvement in any photo. Here are the unretouched photos I used:

What makes this software easy to use is that it has a bunch of sliders that you can use to manipulate almost every part of the picture. It also has some presets that you can use to stay one step ahead of retouching photos. The following is an example of the original picture and the “standard” modification automatically performed by the program.

This is the original photo modified with the “standard” preset filter
Here you can see the original on the left, the preset I can choose in the middle, and the “standard” filter result on the right.

As you can see, in the original photo on the left, my eyes have a few more wrinkles and a bit more luster. My face has some more serious shadows, and my skin is not even in the photo on the left. In addition, my hair seems to have more contrast. I think I am still like me. I think I look good in both photos, but the one on the right is better.

Some other presets are not so flattering. In the photo below, the preset named “Glamorous” makes me look weird. Yes, I don’t have wrinkles, but I also have a strange face. It’s like half of my face is pointed or something. I think I look like an alien.

I think we all agree that those are not very charming, despite the name of the filter. But you may notice that the program does some makeup in these photos, and you can also use the slider to adjust it. I never make the lipstick look right-I think a very slight touch is required in this procedure, and I think the shadows in my photos may be related to it. I think the eye makeup in the picture below looks pretty:

The lipstick is not very good here, but you can see in the toolbar that you can play with it. Maybe if I spend more time, I can fix it and make it look more natural.

You can even use a light brush to highlight your hair, all you need to do is click and drag the area you want to highlight (you can adjust the color just like using lipstick).

You may have noticed that I showed a small bra strap in all these photos. Let’s solve this problem before my mom sees this article and I get a call. The cloning tool allows you to block any problematic things you want, and then replace things with similar colors. You can adjust the masking source, although the program will choose a source for you. On the right, it chose to replace the cardboard box, and I had to drag the red spot onto my shoulder. I am not a perfectionist, otherwise I would use this tool more, because the results are good, but not ideal. I found that the mask is a little fuzzy, maybe a little opaque, and I don’t know how to solve this problem. Maybe there is a way, but I haven’t fully understood this tool yet.

Here you can see that I selected the problematic band by drawing them with the clone tool (purple), and then selected the source of the mask (red)

I have never been known for my housekeeping skills, but this does not mean that I want the entire Internet to see my chaos. The program can insert a new background or blur the background. Before you do this, you must check and look at the sky or background that the program thinks, and make adjustments if necessary. It’s very simple, you just need to select the “Set Sky” or “Set Background” tool, and then click and drag the part you want to be the background or sky. If it is a delicate area, you can zoom in, and you can choose the feathered edge as needed.

The following is an example of a background menu applied to this image. You can use the fill background tool to select the unselected part of the background (but actually the background).
This is a set of similar tools for specifically selecting the sky.

Here are some backgrounds you can choose:

This background is called dark
This is my favorite, blurry background.
This background is called watercolor.

Just to give you an idea of some sky choices, I took this very mediocre picture of my son and his friends on the beach. I chose it because it has a very flat sky, as you can see on the left, but the dramatic sky makes it better overall (it also seems to correct the exposure problem, especially in the middle).

what do I like

  • So easy to use and learn
  • Many different things can be adjusted or corrected

What will i change

  • They can use some work on fascinating presets.

Final thoughts

I really like this software and I believe I will use it to do a lot of things, especially when I have to be my own Gadgeteer supermodel. It is really easy to use, and I think even if you just use the preset “standard” and stop using it, you will be satisfied with the result.
