NAfter protests and robberies in South Africa caused more than 350 deaths, the President established Cyril Ramaphosa cabinet. In a televised speech on Thursday, the president announced that he would replace the ministers of health, defense, and finance.
The national security service will now be part of the presidency. A total of ten ministries and commissions are necessary because the country is facing “several challenges.”
Looting and destruction
The riots occurred after the former president of South Africa was imprisoned Jacob Zuma Started in early July.
In the past few days, large-scale looting occurred in Gauteng and the economic metropolis of Johannesburg and Zuma’s hometown KwaZulu-Natal, and shopping streets were destroyed. At least 354 people died and the material damage is estimated to be approximately US$3.4 billion (EUR 2.9 billion).
Zuma began serving 15 months in prison on July 8 for ignoring the judiciary. Although many South Africans hailed the arrest of the former leader as a success in the country’s rule of law, Zuma’s supporters took to the streets to protest.
