Russia said on Monday (December 20) that it urgently needs the United States to respond to its comprehensive security requirements, and once again warned Russia that it may take a military response unless it sees political action to alleviate its concerns.
Moscow is disturbing the West by gathering troops near Ukraine. Last week, it released a wish list of security proposals that it hopes to negotiate, including a promise that NATO will abandon any military activities in Eastern Europe and Ukraine.
Washington has stated that some of Russia’s proposals are clearly unacceptable, but the United States will respond sometime this week with more specific proposals on the format of any talks.
Konstantin Gavrilov, the Russian diplomat in Vienna, said that the relationship between Moscow and NATO has reached a “critical moment”.
“The dialogue needs to be serious. Although everyone in NATO is strong, they are very aware of the need to take specific political actions, otherwise the alternative is Russia’s military technology and military response,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying. news agency.
The reaction of the United States may affect Moscow’s calculations on Ukraine, which has become the main fuse of East-West relations.
The United States and Ukraine indicated that Russia may be preparing to invade its former Soviet neighbors. Russia denies this and says it is Ukraine’s increasingly close relationship with NATO that has led to the escalation of the confrontation. It compares it with the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, when the world was on the brink of nuclear war.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that Moscow has not received a response from the United States so far.
“I think they will try to make this a slow-moving process, but we need it to be urgent, because the situation is very difficult, very serious, and tends to become more complicated,” RIA quoted him as saying.
The Kremlin stated that it is too early to assess the Western response, but the information from “various sources” about preparing to discuss these ideas is positive.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov (Dmitry Peskov), when asked separately about Belarus’ proposal to host Russian nuclear weapons in the case of the West’s deployment of similar nuclear weapons, said that Moscow has many options.
“It’s no secret that deploying different types of weapons near our borders can be dangerous. It’s no secret that steps need to be taken to balance the situation. There are a variety of options,” he said.
