SEA has been appointed to Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) to supply torpedo launch systems for two new Philippine Navy frigates. This contract follows SEA’s successful delivery of TLS for Philippine Navy frigates and further cements our positive relationship with HHI and the Philippine Navy.
The multi-million pound contract will deliver the first frigate in 2023 and the second in 2025 as part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Revised Modernization Program (RAFPMP).
SEA’s TLS is a weapons-independent close-range rapid reaction system capable of launching a variety of standard NATO-compatible light torpedoes, including the US Mk44, Mk46 and Mk54 torpedoes, the British Sting Ray, the Italian A244S, the French MU90 and the South Korean Blue Shark. Highly flexible due to its unique modular design, the system can also be configured to use other weapons individually. This will allow the Philippine Navy to maintain control over its supply chain by selecting ammunition suppliers, providing greater flexibility and long-term value.
The TLS’s state-of-the-art modular design also enables easier and cost-effective upgrades throughout its service life and significantly reduces the risk of obsolescence of capabilities based on ammunition supply.
