Review – There will always be someone in any family who is always cold. If you don’t know who your family is, it’s probably you! Well, there are people like this where I live, and I have the most comfortable dress: Selk’bag Nomade wearable sleeping bag.

What is it?

Selk’bag Nomad is a wearable sleeping bag with pockets, vents, zipper boots, and even a built-in balaclava mask.

What’s in the box?

Nomad comes with a compression bag to reduce its volume when not in use. It feels a bit bigger than a basketball when compressed like this.

Hardware specifications

The shell of Selk’bag Nomad is made of 100% post-consumer recycled material fiber. Primaloft Black Insulation ThermoPlume provides warmth retention equivalent to 550 down filling power.

  • Surface: 100% recycled polyester fabric
  • Lining: 100% recycled polyester fabric
  • Insulation material: Primaloft Black ThermoPlume
  • Weight: 3.6 pounds for small, 4 pounds for medium, 4.4 pounds for large, and 4.8 pounds for extra large.

I received a medium size (with a bag) that is less than 4 pounds. Very close!

What size should you get? This is the Selk’bag chart:

Design and features

After opening the package, it looks like someone must have made a tights out of a sleeping bag. This is my wife (5 feet 4 inches, 105 pounds for reference). According to the chart, we chose medium. Note that she is not wearing short boots on the right. Talk about it later.

There is a pair of zippered hand pockets in the middle, if you really need to rub your hands for warmth.

I almost missed this, but there is a cell phone bag! certainly! It may also be suitable for small tablets or paperback books.

Do I need to vent some steam? Each leg has a zippered vent with mesh.

Each sleeve has an elastic clasp to prevent cold air from entering.

If you want, you can unzip the boots. My wife pointed out that these boots have a more durable “sole”, which is very suitable for walking, but sometimes, you just want to wear socks or wear suitable shoes around the camp.

The Nomad model has a very clever built-in balaclava, sewn to the back of the hood. However, my wife had the hardest time to wear it when she was carrying her bag because she almost reached the maximum height. It might be easier to put it on before it fits. But if you need it, it is there.

This is the deployed balaclava.

Performance

In the test, my wife quickly “heated up”. This is the end of summer in San Francisco, so it’s not very warm, but it’s not really sweater weather either. She absolutely agrees that when the weather gets cold, Nomad will be the project of choice.

Without the zippered boots, her life is much easier, because at 5′-4″, she is close to the maximum height listed in the medium (5′-5″). After putting on short boots, the crotch will become a little tight. She thought she would skip the boots around the house. If there is too much space in the crotch, please give up booties or try a different size.

She also noticed that her sleeves were a bit long. I personally think that you would rather have too long sleeves than “not enough”.

what do I like

  • Comfortable!
  • Shell and lining are made of 100% recycled materials
  • Comes with compression bag
  • No longer hear “I’m cold”

What will i change

  • If you are at the height limit of a particular size, crotch comfort may be an issue.
  • More colors to choose from will be cool

Final thoughts

My wife claims to own Selk’bag Nomad. It’s hers now. This is a good endorsement for someone who is “always cold”.
