Suspected foreign agent arrested in Potsdam

An employee of the British Embassy in Berlin was arrested on suspicion of working as an agent in Potsdam. He is said to have been working in the Russian Secret Service since November 2020.

DIE Federal Attorney’s Office An employee of the British Embassy in Berlin was arrested for providing documents to the Russian Secret Service. An investigating judge of the Karlsruhe Federal Court will decide whether the British will be detained this Wednesday.

According to the authorities, the man was urgently suspected to be an agent. It is said that he will start working for the Secret Service in November 2020 at the latest. At least once he submitted this material, which he encountered in the course of his work. How much money he got for this is still unclear.

On Tuesday, officials of the Federal Criminal Police Service arrested the suspect in Potsdam. In addition, the man’s residence and workplace were searched. Prior to this, the German and British authorities conducted a joint investigation.
