Swiss researchers calculated mathematical constants PI The accuracy reached a new world record level, using a supercomputer to reach 62.8 tons.
“The calculation took 108 days and 9 hours,” the Graubunden University of Applied Sciences said in a statement.
According to the University’s Center for Data Analysis, Visualization and Simulation, its efforts are “almost twice the record Google set with its cloud in 2019 and 3.5 times the world record before 2020”.
Researchers are waiting for Guinness World Records to certify their feat. Before that, they only revealed the last 10 digits they calculated for pi: 7817924264.
The previous world record pi calculation reached a figure of 50tn.
Pi represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and there are infinite digits after the decimal point.
Nevertheless, researchers continue to use powerful computers to further advance the calculation of constants-the first 10 numbers are 3.141592653.
The Swiss team stated that their experience in calculating pi can be applied to other fields, such as “RNA analysis, fluid dynamics simulation, and text analysis.”
