Design and Features:
SwitchBot includes an earlier version of the thermometer and hygrometer I reviewed here.
A typical SwitchBot product, the Plus version of the thermometer and hygrometer comes in a colorful box with nice packaging. No bumps or bruises to report.

Yeah! Batteries included! The battery cover can be easily ejected without tools.

The new version is larger and easier to read than the old one.

I especially like the foldable stand for tabletop use.

Alternatively, the device can be placed on a ferrous metal surface with built-in magnets. Is there no metal nearby? not a problem! – SwitchBot includes an adhesive metal plate that can be installed almost anywhere.

Like its predecessor, there’s a button on the back to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit and Bluetooth pairing.

Pairing is done quickly. It only takes a few seconds to connect. The only difference in pairing the Plus Meter from previous versions is making sure to select “Meter Plus” from the list of devices.

The app allows thermometers/hygrometers to be named and assigned to specific rooms as needed.

On the home page of the app, the current temperature and humidity are displayed.
Turn on the device to graph temperature and humidity by hour, day, week, month and year. very nice!

The app can be configured to alert you when the temperature or humidity is outside (or inside) a certain range.

If you need to calibrate a thermometer or humidity, you can do the same. SwitchBot includes an informative tutorial. Smooth!

You can also check the battery level and firmware version in the app.
When connected to the separately sold SwitchBot hub, temperature and humidity readings can be accessed via Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and if you’re in Japan, Clova. Integration with IFTTT makes the SwitchBot Thermometer/Hygrometer even more powerful. To save energy, I use the living room conditions reviewed by SwitchBot Curtain Robots to open and close my curtains if it gets hot or cold here. cool!
I use Amazon’s Alexa for voice commands. In the app and using a verbal command, Alexa will explicitly provide the temperature, but not the humidity. I hope to add this feature soon. IFTTT “sees” temperature and humidity information, so it’s no big deal.

To date, I have had no issues or glitches with all of SwitchBot’s products, consistent operation and smooth integration. The SwitchBot Thermometer and Hygrometer Plus is no exception. Under $15, adding functionality to my home automation system was easy on a budget and without frustration. I’ve added more of these to my garage, home theater, and 3D printer filament dryer. They are awesome!
what do I like
- good battery life
- Excellent temperature and humidity history and graphs in the app
- Remote connection via Switchbox hub (sold separately)
- Alexa, Google and IFTTT are connected
- Cheap
what would i change
- Add humidity integration to Alexa
final thoughts
With its line of inexpensive but powerful gadgets, SwitchBot has become one of my favorite home automation vendors. The SwitchBot Thermometer and Hygrometer Plus has all the features of previous versions, plus a larger screen that’s easier to read for a few bucks more. With just a few minutes of configuration, the SwitchBot product works well and stays in great shape, and is a good “value for money”.
