With the Texas Democrats Escape to Washington, D.C. To prevent the Election Integrity Act from returning to their hometown, the question becomes what will happen next. For the time being, they hope to persist until the end of the current special meeting, as this may reduce their legal obligation to attend and complete their work. Of course, Governor Greg Abbott may convene another special meeting to prevent such tricks from happening.
This leaves Texas officials with the next viable option, which is Arrested and forced to appear in court Legislators who fled to allow the system to operate as required.
However, if you listen to Politifact, you will feel that Texas law does not have such clear legal authority. While conducting a “fact check” on this issue, the Austin branch of the party-influenced media rated Ted Cruz’s statement about the legal power to arrest the fleeing Texas Democrats as completely “wrong.”
Okay, so can those Texas Democrats be arrested?@New York Times with @Ted Cruise relatively @PolitiFact with @PolitiFactTexas:https://t.co/pMyYRfmXmHhttps://t.co/7mnZwxy5Jp pic.twitter.com/cNVp3ynKoZ

There are many, many problems. I would first mention that the Texas Democrats themselves admit that they can be arrested, because many of them have begun to call themselves “fugitives” in their social media posts. Second, as shown above, other left-wing media such as The New York Times admitted that the law provides for arrests and brought legislators to the floor of the Texas House of Representatives to provide a quorum.
After that, Ted Cruz himself responded with no criticism of Politifact’s apparently erroneous ruling on his comments.

As Cruz pointed out, not only does the Texas Constitution clearly stipulate that lawmakers can be attended by force, but the clause is copied from the U.S. Constitution, which includes legislation that allowed arrests and refused to show documents for hundreds of years Precedent. And provide a quorum in accordance with legal requirements.
In fact, as Steve Guest pointed out, we have examples of this happening in the past, when a member of the Diet was first carried to the Senate floor and performed a funny performance.
The SAME clause in the U.S. Constitution has been used for more than 200 years to force members to attend, including bringing a member of the U.S. Senate into the Senate Chamber. https://t.co/605xtuCIkH

In addition, if the clause does not exist, then the Texas Democrats will not be in Washington DC now. Their entire purpose of leaving the state is to avoid arrest and force to appear in court. Does Politifact claim that these lawmakers lied about their motives for leaving the state?
The thing is, even if Politifact wants to argue about some details in the law, the correct rating here is still “mostly correct” because the language clearly exists and precedents for its use clearly exist. The conclusions they reach will certainly not be “false.” However, Politifact has long rated Republicans’ objectively true statements as false, hiding behind statements lacking context or ignoring other available data. This Not the first time They did the same with Ted Cruz, and their standards were very biased. Politifact is allowed to impersonate an unbiased source of true information, especially for social media sites, which is a joke.
