DThe governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has contracted the coronavirus. His office announced on Tuesday that the Republican politician tested positive the day after meeting with many party friends in a closed-space event.
The governor did a good job and showed no symptoms of Covid 19 disease. He self-quarantined at his residence. According to reports, his wife Cecilia Abbott tested negative.
Criticism from the Democratic Party
Abbott is one of the governors of the United States that most clearly opposes the use of masks to prevent corona. According to the decree, he also prohibits all government agencies and institutions that receive public funds from setting mandatory vaccination requirements. Abbott also strongly opposes any requirement to wear protective masks. Nevertheless, several school districts in Texas have enacted such rules.
Former Democratic presidential candidate and former mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Castro wrote on Twitter that Abbott has put political considerations “before public health” since the beginning of the pandemic. He hopes that the governor will reconsider his position on the requirement to wear masks in schools.
