The CDU in Ahrweiler opposes the district administrator

DThe CDU in the Ahrweiler district owns the Ahrweiler district head Jürgen Pföhler (CDU), no longer portable. This comes from a statement made by the CDU regional association Ahrweiler on Monday. The reason given was that Pföhler “can no longer perform his duties due to illness”. Therefore, this step is “necessary and inevitable.”

It also said: “The trust of the people of the Ahrweiler region is no longer given. The decisive and hard-line leadership of the office is now imperative and is no longer possible in this particular situation.”

“Unfettered New Beginning”

In order to meet the challenges of the next few years, the circle now needs “an unhindered new starting point.” The prerequisite for this is “the people’s trust in the political leaders.”

After the flood, Peffler was severely criticized. On July 14th and 15th, heavy rains triggered a tsunami in the Aer River, flooding most of the valley. Approximately 42,000 people were affected by the consequences. Many people have been killed, and many more are missing.

The Koblenz Prosecutor’s Office began an investigation of Pföhler and another member of the crisis team in early August. It is a preliminary suspicion about manslaughter and bodily harm caused by negligence. In essence, it should be clarified whether human lives can be saved through previous warnings or evacuation.

Editor’s note: In an earlier version of this report, Jürgen Pföhler, the mayor of the Ahrweiler district, has resigned from his office. This is not the case. We have changed the message accordingly.
