HBO Asia invited us to a special premium screening of the HBO original series “The Last of Us” last week, and I’ll be honest, once it hits theaters, I’m excited to marathon the entire episode.
Series information:
The Last of Us is a nine-episode season that begins Monday, January 16, 2023 on HBO Go. The series is based on the critically acclaimed Naughty Dog video game of the same name developed exclusively for the PlayStation® platform, written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
The plot is set in a post-apocalyptic world 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. The entire story revolves around the game’s task of transporting/smuggling a 14-year-old girl safely out of an oppressive ghetto.
Series cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsay as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Tove as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah Ray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Melanie Lynskey as Catherine, Storm Reed as Riley, Mel Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce Starring Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Kevon Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, and Elaine Miles as Florence. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker also star.
how do i see it
People ask if they will like the show even if they don’t know the game. Will they connect? Will they understand the series? The answer is yes, yes, yes. I haven’t played the game because I don’t own a PlayStation, and I’m honestly not a gamer, but this show is so relevant and engaging, you wouldn’t even think it was based on a PlayStation game.
I hardly ever cover my eyes for a drama, but this one made me do it. While it might start off slow for others, it’s a great way to introduce the main characters and get you in on what it’s all about. What starts out as a small job quickly turns into a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they all must travel across America and depend on each other to survive.
Watching it on a big screen adds a lot more to it, but I have a big TV so I’m hoping to get the same edge-of-the-seat feeling when watching it at home.
