Attacker Haitian President Yorvernell Mois was killed in his home On Wednesday morning, mercenaries posing as agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Miami Herald Report.
According to the Herald, a video taken at Pellerin 5, where Moise’s private residence is located, showed that the attacker apparently claimed to be an agent of the Narcotics Enforcement Administration.
In the lensInsiders have reviewed but cannot independently verify, a man can be heard saying in English through a loudspeaker: “This is a DEA operation.”
There is no evidence that DEA was involved in this attack. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Herald quoted government officials in Haiti and the United States as saying that they refuted the view that DEA had any connection with the killings.
A Haitian government official who asked not to be named told the Herald that the assassin was a “mercenary” and a State Department official told the media that the claim that the DEA was involved in the attack was “completely wrong.”
