Schischow was reported missing after not returning from jogging on Monday morning. The police are investigating a murder case.
A generationThe day after Kiev’s sudden disappearance, the Belarusian activist Vitali Shisho was found dead. Police said on Tuesday that Skisho was found “hanging” in a park near his home in the Ukrainian capital. She started the murder investigation. Schischow once led the “Ukrainian Belarusian House” organization at Telegram, a messenger service from Kiev.
Schischow was reported missing after not returning from jogging on Monday morning. NGO Vyasna quoted Schischow’s friends as saying that the activist was recently followed by “strangers” while jogging.
Facing repression in their own country, many Belarusians fled to neighboring Ukraine, Poland or Lithuania. The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, was declared the winner of the presidential election a year ago. Despite numerous allegations of fraud, he has ruled for nearly 30 years. This triggered a historic large-scale protest in Belarus, but was brutally suppressed by the security forces.
