In addition to changes in travel regulations, passengers at Heathrow Airport this week are also facing long queues.
The Ministry of the Interior blamed the queuing on the need to check Covid documents-in addition, families with young children cannot use electronic doors because facial recognition technology is not available for children under 12 years of age.
A spokesperson for the Home Office said in a statement: “Throughout the pandemic, we are well aware that the queue time may be longer because we ensure that all passengers comply with the hygiene measures adopted to ensure the safety of the British public.
“This weekend is the busiest weekend of the year for returning passengers, especially the number of families where children under 12 cannot use the electronic boarding gate.
“We have been working hard this week to reduce waiting times, for example by deploying staff flexibly at Heathrow Airport, and continue to work closely with all airports and airlines to ensure that all passengers can enjoy a safe and worry-free journey.”
