runnymede trust and the New Economics Foundation are pleased to announce that we are partnering on a three-year project to address the root causes of poverty, inequality, and problem debt. power of prosperity is an ambitious plan to change the balance of power in our political and economic systems to create the conditions everyone Can thrive. We seek prosperity in the most generous sense of the word, aiming to provide people with the wealth and security they need to live healthy, happy and fulfilling lives.
Our partnership is based on a shared understanding that these outcomes cannot be achieved with the status quo.The collision of the corona crisis and the cost of living makes it clear that we are not “It all goes together”. We know that the relationship between poverty and problem debt is not simple, that debt is a symptom of a wider problem. Our economy has been shaped to serve corporate power and wealthy elites, creating An equitable financial system, which hits some groups the hardest. The roots of the cost of living crisis lie in our economic system, which requires urgent and fundamental change.
Black and minority ethnic communities, single-parent households, and households with disabilities have consistently and unfairly faced disproportionate levels of poverty and debt. In recent years, we have seen this translate to tragic levels of material deprivation, housing instability, food insecurity and fuel deprivation.
Our economy penalizes those with lower and precarious incomes and exposes communities to a poverty premium that takes more from those with the least income. power of prosperity Going beyond individualized short-term solutions to facilitate economic transformation that guarantees financial security and a decent standard of living for everyone.
Those most affected by these issues must be at the center of the change we need, and this can only happen by building collective strength. power of prosperity A coalition of organizations representing communities whose voices desperately need to be heard will be created. Through these networks, we will create a plan with local, regional and national impact that will make the case for radical overhaul of our economic, social security and financial systems, with leadership from those most affected firmly in the the forefront.
