It is necessary to remind evangelicals and other branches of extreme Christianity that the United States is not a racial or religious country. Their intense pursuit of white power and a Christian-controlled country will be futile. There will be threats and some victories in these fanatical attempts to end women’s reproductive rights, but the diverse U.S. voters will ultimately ensure that the constitutional rights of women, minorities, and immigrants are upheld.
The Texas law is unconstitutional because in 1973, Roe v. Wade became the law of this land, protecting women’s right to abortion. Although the Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling did not prevent the Texas law from taking effect today, the court did not rule on the constitutionality of the new law. As we all know, the conservative judges in the court are pro-life, but they have avoided ruling on the legality of the law. The New York Times explained the summary of the ruling;
“Abortion providers who challenged the law in an urgent application to the court did not make their own claims when faced with “complex and novel” procedural issues. Most people emphasized that it is not a constitutionality of Texas law. The ruling is made, and there is no intention to limit the “procedurally appropriate challenge” to it.”
The media has been hysterically commenting on this story, predicting the end of Roe v. Wade and women’s reproductive rights. The ruling actually temporarily deprived Texas women of their right to abortion. After 6 weeks of pregnancy, abortion is now illegal in Texas. There are no exceptions to the law for rape and incest. The cruelty, religious fanaticism, and misogyny inherent in the law reveal the moral depravity of Governor Greg Abbott and Republican Texas lawmakers.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s objections strongly condemned the ruling,”When applying for a ban on a blatantly unconstitutional law designed to prohibit women from exercising their constitutional rights and evading judicial review, most judges chose to bury their heads in the sand. ” Sotomayor rejected the ingenious strategy of the Republicans of Texas that allowed conservative courts to allow the law to take effect. The judge further explained, ” it It is impossible for a state to evade federal judicial review by outsourcing the enforcement of unconstitutional laws to its citizens. “
Since the reproductive rights of women in Texas are now being violated, legal opposition is inevitable. The justices who voted to allow Texas women to be subject to the cruel aspects of the law hide behind the malicious technicality that protects Texas from being held accountable for violating federal law by appointing citizens to oversee abortions. Because this law caters to the religious beliefs of a small number of Americans who deny science and live a life contrary to their beloved Christian values, women in Texas will now suffer medical, emotional, and financial difficulties.
American democracy and morality are being attacked by religious hypocrites, misogynists, and authoritarian and conservative power traffickers. Republicans have fought dirty and criminal in the process of pursuing power, so Democrats must make full use of their weak power in our government, or democracy will disappear. Senator Joe Manchin is an obstacle to the threat of democracy. He has to go!
