Sometimes you need an alert.
It may be time to replace your smoke alarm battery, or it may be time to pick up grandma in MMA class.
Maybe your carbon monoxide level is high…or maybe there is a supportive speaker on campus.
Such surveillance is the focus of selected students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
According to reports American Youth Foundation, The Black Student Movement (BSM)-in cooperation with the Twitter account that issued the attendee alerts-made a series of requirements.
Among these 54 projects, there are Africans, African Americans and Diaspora Research(American Agricultural Development Association).
why?
The AAAD department cannot be placed under a building with a racist name (the battle hall). This is an insult to the goals and values of the department that lacks sufficient black professors.
In addition, the organization wants to be free from harassment:
Sexual harassment from CDS staff
purpose: Protect black women and other black students on campus from harassment in campus cafeterias, and provide students with a safe way to report misconduct
“Black students,” BSM said, “There must be a safe reporting platform for misconduct, just like an investigation requires food quality…”

As for sex assault According to reports, BSM hopes to “increase the diversity of women’s centers, add more gender violence coordinators for people of color (mainly black)”, and “establish a…survivor alliance” specifically targeting “marginalized” identities group.
Given that “black and indigenous women are most affected by sexual assault,” at the Women’s Center, BSM requested that “white women should no longer be employed in the role of primarily dealing with students of color.”
Another goal: “Provide more accessible ways for black students” to protest the grades already achieved.
The alliance also insists that darker-skinned students “be sufficiently representative of the health care professionals employed by the university.”

Black students endure trauma in this school every day, and there are few resources to contact.
BSM sees success as “specially hiring black therapists with different backgrounds who understand trauma.”
This university is not the only stance against pain.

Almost not half of BME (Black and Minority) respondents believe that Goldsmiths students will prioritize racial equality and the needs of BME students. …
The lack of relevant role models in various roles within the institution may adversely affect the experience of BME students, in which they cannot establish contact with people who hold positions of authority and qualifications.
At Imperial College London, the School of Engineering has Posted a course Describes the micro-attack endured by non-whites as “death by a thousand swords.”
Therefore, the training warned, “There is only one race, human.”
Back at UNC-Chapel Hill, the black student movement wants to be alerted:
Anti-racism alert
purpose: The purpose of adding anti-racism alerts to the Alert Carolina system is to improve campus safety for black students before a year when our community may be tense.Prioritize student transparency before the outdated and unreal image of the campus as a diverse utopia
because:
Students should not sign up for new services in order to hear dangerous white supremacists on campus.
In fact, BSM expects improvements:
There are no white supreme agents on campus
purpose: Protect black students from the remarks and actions of hateful white supremacists on our campus, and improve the censorship process for obtaining permission to speak at the university
Who are those “dangerous white supremacists”?
Well, they are unlikely to be Democrats.

Well, hope the school will review the requirements and do the right thing.
At the same time, the struggle against white supremacy — as far as I know, mainly around the meaning of these words — continues.
