A war memorial in Canada was destroyed on November 11th before the celebration of Remembrance Day to commemorate veterans. The graffiti on the memorial wall in Cranbrook, British Columbia, is written in green paint: “The real hero is the vaccinated person!”
According to Canadian Global News, local authorities learned of the graffiti at around 7am on Thursday morning.
The City of Cranbrook wrote: “As a community, we are disappointed by the rude behavior of those who deface such an important monument on such an important day for all Canadians.” Facebook Thursday.
The city added: “This behavior is not in line with the character and values of our citizens and communities.”
According to Global News, city officials were able to remove graffiti before the Memorial Day celebrations and parades originally scheduled for Thursday.
“We thank the community members for reminding us of the vandalism this morning. We are very proud of our staff, RCMP and fire brigade members, who were able to quickly remove graffiti and allow the anniversary ceremony to continue, and continue to focus on us All past and present veterans pay tribute for their selfless sacrifice,” the city wrote in its post, and urged those with information about the vandalism to contact the authorities.
Facebook users who responded to the Cranbrook City post condemned the vandalism.
“Disappointing behavior. Thanks to everyone who helped clean up this matter,” Facebook user Stephanie Anne wrote.
“Karma will definitely deal with individuals who do this,” user Mike LeClair wrote.
He added: “Thank you very much for the first batch of respondents to come forward and eliminate this unimaginable destructive behavior.”
