The widow of the killed Haitian leader Jovenel Moise was severely injured in the attack. On Saturday, he delivered his first public speech since the attack, calling on the country not to “get lost”.
“Thank God, I’m still alive,” Martina Moys said in an audio message posted on her official Twitter account three days after her husband was shot and killed at home.
“I’m still alive, but I lost my husband Jovenel,” she added.
Haitian Minister of Culture and Communications Pradel Henriques confirmed to AFP the authenticity of the statements made in Creole.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Martine Moise was rushed to a Haitian hospital after the attack, and then to Miami for treatment.
According to Haitian authorities, an armed commando team of 28 men-26 Colombians and two Haitian Americans-stormed into the home and opened fire on the couple.
So far, 17 people have been arrested and at least 3 people have been killed. According to the police, there are still a few people at large. There is no public motive.
Martine Moise said:
In a blink of an eye, the mercenary broke into my house and hit my husband with bullets…not even giving him a chance to speak.
“I’m crying, it’s true, but we can’t let this country lose its way,” she said. “We can’t let his blood…in vain.”
The murder of her husband has thrown Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, into chaos.

With its political future full of uncertainty, the international community called on this poor Caribbean country to continue with the presidential and legislative elections scheduled for later this year.
“I will not abandon you,” Martina Moys said.
She promised to communicate directly with Haitians on Facebook “in the near future”.
