SecondTourists from Austria fell from a cliff on the island of Mallorca and died. As the media quoted the police on Saturday, the accident occurred on Friday in Port de Sóller in the northwestern Spanish resort island. The 61-year-old man fell several meters deep. Several witnesses saw the accident and immediately notified the police and ambulance service, Mallorca magazine wrote in the online edition. The man hit the stone ground and died on the spot.
According to reports, the accident site was located on the rugged northwest coast of Mallorca, making it extremely difficult for even experienced rescue teams to enter. Therefore, after complex restoration, the body was transported away by ship.
The cause of the accident was initially unknown. However, the authorities largely ruled out any third-party debt. Nevertheless, upon request, the Guardia civilian police department stated that the investigation has already begun.
Port de Sóller is a popular starting point for trekking in the area, with the Serra da Tramontana mountain range and the famous towns of Deià and Valldemossa. Accidents of hikers falling into the abyss are not uncommon there.
