The FBI reported on Monday that the number of hate crimes in the United States rose to the highest level in more than a decade due to the increase in attacks against black and Asian victims.
According to the 2020 data submitted by more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies across the country to the FBI, 7,759 hate crimes occurred in 2020, an increase of 6% over 2019 and the highest number since 2008.
According to FBI data, the number of crimes against blacks rose from 1,930 to 2,755, and incidents against Asians jumped from 158 to 274.
The U.S. Department of Justice warned that white supremacist groups posed a growing security threat after the fatal attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

At the same time, reports of hate attacks against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have increased due to many inflammatory remarks that former President Donald Trump blamed China for the Covid-19 pandemic.
In May, US Attorney General Merrick Garland outlined new steps to help state and local police track and investigate hate crimes.
