Review – I used to have many such cubic iPhone chargers until I gave them to people who “need a charger”. Over time, I have been focusing on chargers with USB-C, but I still need the “old” USB-A charger. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to review the Unitek USB-C 3-port 66W GaN wall charger with USB-C and A ports.
What is it?
There are many wall chargers on the market, but the more ports you add, the bigger they are. Recently, gallium nitride (GaN)-based chargers have reduced the physical size of the charger to accommodate more punches per cubic inch. The Unitek USB-C 3-port 66W GaN wall charger is listed as having a total power of 66W, but this is a bit confusing. Read on to understand why.
What’s in the box?
Nothing: The box is definitely bigger than the compact Unitek USB-C 3-port 66W GaN wall charger!
Hardware specifications
I took a snapshot of the enclosed paper manual, which explains how the charger provides power.
The 66W rating comes from all three ports used: 30+18+18 = 66. This does not mean that every port can provide 66W. However, when using a single USB-C port, the charger is designed to provide up to 65W of power.
Product Size: 50*50*25 mm
Design and features
The Unitek USB-C 3-port 66W GaN wall charger has flip-out pins, which is a travel feature that I like very much. The picture is next to an ordinary Apple 18 (or 20) watt USB-C charger.
what do I like
- Charge up to three devices at the same time
- Eversion tip
- small
What will i change
- It would be great if each USB-C port could output 65W at the same time, but 30W is already pretty good!
Final thoughts
The Unitek USB-C 3-port 66W GaN wall charger is now my preferred charger in my home, it can charge almost everything. Its small size and folding pins will also make it my new travel charger.
