Volker Kauder is the head of the committee of St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt

DHe has been chairman of the Bundestag Union Parliamentary Group for many years Walker Cord (CDU) will lead a committee of experts to further develop St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt and make it a national monument. The committee was appointed by the Minister of State for Culture Monica Groots (CDU) and will hold its first meeting on September 13 in Rome, Frankfurt. Grütters told FAZ that Paulskirche was “a key place in the history of German democracy.”

The goal of the city of Frankfurt, the state of Hesse and the federal government is to develop St. Paul’s Church into a “national place of remembrance, memorial and learning.” The Minister of State said: “If we raise the public’s awareness of freedom and democratic places more strongly than before, it will strengthen the strength of civil society and thus strengthen our democratic defenses.”

For St. Paul’s Church, “as a particularly important symbol of our democratic tradition”, this applies to a large extent, so Groots. She is very happy to be able to win the professional company of “outstanding people” and help shape the future of St. Paul’s Church.

In addition to Caudell, the committee also includes 12 experts including Hans Walter Huth, President of the History Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, Miljam Wenzel, Director of the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt, and professors. The key issues document that serves as the basis for the work of the committee pointed out that “substantial premises and conceptual cornerstones” should be formulated, and “specific implementation suggestions” should be submitted before the end of next year. 2023 will be the 175th anniversary of the parliamentary meeting in St. Paul’s Church.

For centuries, history has been written in St. Paul’s Church.
