[The agreement] Include Lattice Cymru Transform oneself from a traditional opposition party in the Westminster sense to a new, refreshing and different form of common opposition party, cooperating where possible, while continuing to oppose, and criticize and criticize when necessary.
There is no precedent for what we are about to do in the politics of these islands. This is Wales’ unique departure from the British Constitution-if you like independence, you can pay a down payment-although similar arrangements have occurred elsewhere-especially in Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, Denmark and Norway; Commonwealth countries such as New Zealand. Small countries have broken the political model as usual.
What we have meticulously designed in this agreement is a completely new approach in the political culture we grew up and used to…
But no matter how you describe it, no matter how you call it, it is not opposed for the sake of opposition.
Oppositionism has some appeal, but the deeper issue in politics is not “who or what do we oppose”, but “what do we really do for?”
The core of our politics, in this political party, is above everything else. It is a Welsh democratic idea, a Welsh political country that transcends political parties. The values it embodies are more lasting and more important than anything that divides us.
For Wales to be free, it must first be united.
Moreover, this is what the cooperation agreement aims to achieve. It puts us on the road to the unification of Wales. This road is faster than we thought, and we will find that joining the international society of normal and independent countries is comfortable and natural, and it is indeed essential.
