Some countries on the red list, such as Kenya, have very low Covid cases and deaths, but they are among the poorest countries in the world and have little impact on government policies.
Essentially, the British government is using this list to appease the public who need to see the government do something-but at the same time, the government is convinced that backlash will be minimal because these countries have little say.
What is the logic behind the need to eliminate the need for quarantine for those who travel to the Amber List countries (Report, August 3), but those who visit some low-risk red list countries, regardless of their vaccination status, need to pay high quarantine costs?
The unfair traffic light system exacerbates socio-economic inequality, because those whose families are in low- and middle-income countries cannot travel to visit family or friends or work. If they do, they will pay high quarantine costs when they return to the UK.
