DGerman film director Wim Wenders (“Berlin Sky”, “Paris in Texas”) received the Heart of Honor in Sarajevo for his life’s work. As announced by the Festival’s Press Office, the director’s filmmaker accepted the award at the beginning of the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival celebrations at the National Theatre of the Bosnian Capital on Friday night.
“We are very pleased to be able to pay tribute to the core characters of the world’s cinema,” the film festival director Mirsad Purivatra said at the ceremony. “As an excellent filmmaker, Wim Wenders always uses unforgettable stories and emotions to attract audiences.” As part of the film festival, a retrospective was held for the 76-year-old man. The most important film festival in Southeast Europe
The Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) was founded in 1995 when Serbia was besieging the city during the Bosnian War. It expresses the protests of filmmakers and civilians against nationalism and war. The main awards of the Heart of Sarajevo (Srce Sarajeva) are divided into several categories. Honorable mentions were awarded to Robert De Niro (2016), Oliver Stone (2017) and Isabel Huppert (2019), among others. In 2011, Wenders showed his 3D documentary “Pina” at the Sarajevo Film Festival. Under the guidance of the legendary choreographer Pina Bosch (1940-2009), he immortalized the Wuppertal Tanz Theater.
