Winter Capsule Wardrobe – Jess Ann Kirby

Earlier this year, I asked about your style content requirements, and capsule wardrobes are popular. This winter capsule wardrobe I created a few years ago is still relevant, and it captures my winter favorites aside from a few minor updates. I’ve added more ideas below, along with the main winter capsule wardrobe essentials. We have long winters here in Vermont, so winter fashion is a huge part of my wardrobe. Dressing in the winter, I think more importantly, loving my winter wardrobe is really important because it’s one of the things that gets me through the cold, dark days of the season. This is a comfortable time. Layering is essential. It’s entirely possible to thrive in winter, even outdoors, as long as you have the right clothing. So here are my top picks to keep you comfortable and stylish all winter long.

winter capsule wardrobe

In general, I look for a few key items in my winter wardrobe must-haves. It needs to be comfortable, functional, hardwearing, stylish, and durable. Winters are long in Vermont and I definitely put my clothes to the test. I tend to focus on things that make it easier for me to get dressed (they go with a variety of clothes) and are easy to care for (no dry cleaning required). I have a steam machine that makes things a little easier up front (you can hand wash most sweaters if you want)!

A winter capsule wardrobe must be warm, durable and stylish. It’s also important to capture your own personal style. While I’m personally leaning towards neutral, that might not work for you, and that’s okay! You can use this list to tailor it to your lifestyle and wardrobe. If you love color, embrace it. At the end of the day, personal style is about wearing clothes that make you feel good.
