SecondIt is foreseeable and unavoidable that the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan and its direct consequences will be reversed by the wolf of American politics. For the opponents of President Biden and his administration, the images sent from Kabul Airport to the world (including the United States) are very dramatic. Because they provided material for their view that the president is weak and incompetent. As we all know, Trump’s predecessor signed an agreement with the United States. Taliban Biden has begun to sound the alarm for the withdrawal of American troops, and it is not entirely surprising that he accuses the country of the country’s greatest foreign policy humiliation. Other Republicans who do not use the very large superlatives will at least say a big badass, and they also blame the president.
Approved reduction
The incident in the Hindu Kush Mountains began to have an impact on the Americans themselves. They themselves agreed to withdraw troops. This is actually a retreat, if it were not for the late Democrats to worry about next year’s congressional elections. Will the alternate voters who helped them win last November turn around to help Republicans (who are expected to win due to overdue redistribution of electoral districts) get a majority in Congress?
Historically, this is completely normal. On the first election day after the White House changes in power and personnel, voters were willing to make amendments to strengthen the opposition party in the Capitol. The pendulum swings backward and the president’s wings are clamped. This is what happened to Obama, what happened to Trump. The only question is whether Afghanistan will still dominate the headlines in the next 14 months, or whether other things, such as the situation on the Corona Front, will not make the headlines. In any case, Republicans cannot often talk about the disaster in Kabul at the moment, because party politics can take advantage of it regardless of whether it is unfair and hypocritical.
Saturday at 9 a.m.
When the “9/11” incident approaches, they will seize every opportunity to remind them that the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan, where the al-Qaeda terrorist network provided refuge at the time. This will be a “good” anniversary, with accusations, slanders, perverts, and some regrets. The foreign policy consensus that once existed and that the United States is politically correct is largely a thing of the past.
American fallacy
There is no doubt that the withdrawal could have been better planned, coordinated and communicated. Until recently, the impression of many voters was that exits related to a fixed timetable would not have a major negative impact. The big return activity proves that the opposite is true. Ups and downs, and then we have nothing to do, that is a fallacy.
The estimation of when the Taliban will regain power in Kabul is grossly wrong. But at a certain point they should be true, and everyone agrees: The Taliban, which has been promoted by Trump as a negotiating partner, will return to power. Governments with compromised authority will collapse. It collapsed within a few days.
After Biden took office, he would often draw a balance sheet. How destructive is the division of American society and the political camp to the country’s foreign policy? Under Trump’s leadership, how much has reputation, credibility and reliability been affected? The answer is clear; they are usually negative. This is why the election of the multilateralist Biden is so popular, and his “America is back” is warmly welcomed.
Now it turns out that his words and actions do not match. This is often the case with Trump, but in a sense, his comments on allies are more sharp and demeaning than the actual policies of his administration (for example, about NATO). Biden speaks amiably and pretends to be a loyal supporter of the league; however, he alone decides the date of his withdrawal. It can be assumed that if Washington does not want to continue, the evacuation operations involving many Western countries will end. But maybe he will succumb to European urges.
Middle class foreign policy
If American partners in Europe, Asia, and other places pay more attention to the so-called “Bidenism”, that is, American foreign policy should take into account the interests of “working families,” then American foreign policy should be desirable. The middle class should focus on economic revitalization that is aimed at the interior. In other words: the goal of this foreign policy is not to “state building” in Afghanistan. So what about those who (must) rely on the United States?
