review – The WUBEN H5 Multifunctional Clip-on Flashlight is a multifunctional flashlight Comes with unique, well-made editing equipment you’ve never seen before. The flashlight can be detached from the clip for handheld use, but if placed in the clip, it can be a headlight on the included strap, or attached to a belt or hat brim. installation and setup

After opening the box and putting everything on the H5, I unscrewed the tail cap, removed the round blue plastic protective cap on the battery, and plugged the USB C charging cable into the battery to fully charge it.

test and observe

My thanksgiving rolls and pies have H5 on the front. Note the swivel capability of the clips.

clip holder
The Wuben H5 flashlight has a unique clip holder in which it can be attached and can be attached to the headband for its primary use. This light stand can also clip to the front or side of a belt, or even to a hat. There’s a small clip to hold it tightly to something thin, like a headband, but it won’t clip to a belt, brim, or anything thick.

To clip onto thicker items, the clip clips rely solely on friction, so the thickness of what you’re clipping determines how secure the clip will be. When clipped to my belt or hat brim, the light is safe and doesn’t bang around.

The biggest problem with using the clip mount is that you have to remove the H5 tail cap, insert the light into the hard plastic ring of the clip mount, and then reinstall the tail cap. If you wear the H5 on a belt and want to quickly use it as a handheld torch, there is no Quick Draw option.

headlight use
Mount the H5 as a headlight on the included headband, and it feels light and doesn’t get tiring for extended periods of use. I did a 90-minute nighttime diced onion fry in the Wuben H5 headlamp style, which I prefer outdoors on the grill side burner. This is a great light for outdoor cooking in low light conditions.

Having done a couple of nighttime dog walks in our “light but some traffic” neighborhood, I set the lights to SOS flash mode while walking. Not only did this give me a good view of the street with every flash, but it was enough for the car to see the beam before it saw the dog and me. I have never used SOS with other lights with this mode. I wish the H5 had a flash mode, but more on that later.

flashlight use
The Wuben H5 is ideal for use as a portable handheld torch. I’ve been doing this for over a week. It has the head at a 90-degree angle to the body of the flashlight, and it takes an extra step to direct the beam in front of me before turning on the light, otherwise I’d probably hit the bright light on my face many times in the dark.

The tail cap is strongly magnetized and should be safe if used to fasten to steel or iron.

The H5 has never accidentally opened in my pocket.

These photos show the H5 from lowest to highest brightness settings. Note the “spill” on the grass to better differentiate each mode.

beam
The beam has a defined central spot with soft edges and sharp edges. This allows for greater light diffusion over a wider area of the full beam. You can aim the bright center of the beam at the target, or turn the light slightly away to see objects with weaker edges of the beam.

SOS or Flash?
I hope flashlight manufacturers stop using SOS mode. I prefer a slower strobe or flash function like you’d see from a bike light. If you’re really lost in the wilderness and a helicopter is flying by, the flashlight’s regular flash pattern is a good indicator of your location.

The 2 second pause that occurs after each SOS Morse sequence is complete is quite a long pause in some settings (eg oncoming traffic). Steady flash is safer for optimal “see me” visibility when walking, running or biking.

what do I like

  • Wuben’s tradition of making solid, well-designed, and beautifully finished products continues with the H5
  • Great choice of brightness levels, from discrete to very high brightness.
  • The tail cap magnets work well without adding too much weight.
  • The battery has a charging port, which allows the flashlight to be completely sealed (in place of the charging port in the flashlight)

what would i change

  • I prefer flash mode to SOS mode.
  • A quick release to remove the flashlight from the clip would be a useful feature.

final thoughts

The WUBEN H5 Multi-Function Clip-On Torch features a unique clip that gives you the flexibility to use the light in multiple ways beyond traditional torch configurations. The H5 Clip Light is manufactured to high quality and performance standards. I recommend it.
