Yesterday, in the attack on the Abbey Gate leading to Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA), 12 U.S. Marines and one naval soldier were killed and 18 others were injured. The attack was part of a simultaneous suicide bombing on the gate of the Abbey and the Baron’s Hotel located outside the gate. In addition to our troops, as many as 170 Afghan civilians were killed and more than 200 injured.

The suicide bomber passed through the Taliban checkpoint and detonated the bomb when the Marines searched the second-level checkpoint. No one knows whether the bomber evaded detection at the Taliban checkpoint or was launched from that checkpoint. As I posted yesterday, I don’t doubt that Biden’s White House would be very curious about how this happened.They stubbornly think that the Taliban are our friends in this enterprise (see The Kabul mission begins to fall apart and we can expect to see worse).
To understand what happened yesterday, you must understand the intensity of the war in Afghanistan. Any time you are shot, this is a very intense and personal experience. Afghanistan is a battlefield, and the main enemy is improved explosive devices. To a certain extent, the “green vs. blue” attack is an attack on the US by the Afghan army embedded or otherwise supported by them. Since 2001, as of yesterday, 1,915 members of the armed forces have been killed in the operation. Depending on how you time the start of the war, about 8 people die every month. In the 65 months of the war, the Kia of the United States was zero. Only in the 50 months of our participation, the list of casualties will be equal to or greater than the list of casualties inflicted on us yesterday. More Americans were killed yesterday than during our five years in Afghanistan. In terms of the number of casualties in a single day, yesterday was the third-to-last day in the US military’s 20-year war in Afghanistan. The worst day for US casualties in Afghanistan was August 6, 2011, when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter carrying members of the Navy SEALs was shot down by rocket-propelled grenades over eastern Afghanistan. Thirty Americans, including 22 SEALs, were killed in the crash.
On June 28, 2005, 19 special operations forces were killed in Operation Red Wings, of which 3 soldiers were killed in an ambush, and 16 others were killed when their helicopters fell to help repel the ambush.
On July 13, 2008, 9 Americans and 27 others were injured in an attack on an American observation post, known as the Battle of Vanat.
On October 3, 2009, an estimated 200 Taliban fighters attacked a remote base in eastern Afghanistan. Eight Americans and four Afghans were killed at the fighting outpost in Keating.
On December 30, 2009, a Jordanian double agent seduced seven CIA agents to be killed in a suicide attack on Chapman, a forward operating base.
On September 21, 2010, a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Qalat, killing 5 soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division, 3 Navy SEALs, and a Navy special operations support technician.
On April 27, 2011, eight US Air Force pilots and a US contractor were killed at Kabul Airport. An Afghan Air Force pilot became angry during an argument in the war room of the airport, then suddenly pulled out his gun and started shooting. The gunman was fatally wounded at the end of the incident.
On November 1, 2013, in a coordinated Taliban attack on the Salerno camp, two US troops were killed and dozens of people were seriously injured. The Salerno camp was the third largest US military base in the country at the time.
There has been no American Kia for 17 consecutive months. Until yesterday.
Maybe, just maybe, we will see the humility of Biden and his flatterers in the media and authorities. Their acrimonious claims that this is success are always hollow.

But we have seen these claims made by a group of idiots, and their voices are getting louder and louder.
Joe Biden presided over one of our bloodiest days in the war in Afghanistan. This day was completely affected by his incompetence, and sadly said that integrity and/or the incompetence of the US military’s chain of command became possible. Young people are unnecessarily put in danger to perform dangerous tasks that do not need to be completed. We do not need to operate at an airport. We don’t need to let the Taliban occupy half of that airport. We do not need to put our security in the hands of the Taliban. In this case, we do not need to evacuate the nationals of the United States and allies and our Afghan allies. This situation is not only organic. These are all the choices made by the Biden White House, its Department of Defense and the Political Commissar of the State Council.
It doesn’t have to be this way, but it is true, and Joe Biden has it all.
