When the U.S. Swimming Team started the game on Saturday, first lady Jill Biden was by the pool in Tokyo-but she was cheered. American athletes started chanting “Dr. Jill Biden!” as they waited for their turn in the swimming pool. Due to the surge in COVID-19 in Japan, Biden wore a blue US team suit jacket and mask and waved to the swimmers in the largely empty stands.

President and first lady attending the Olympics Not new. Unprecedented in history, anyone will be subject to the kind of servile flattery usually left to third world tyrants. It is one thing to shout “America”. It is a completely different proposition to advocate a cult of personality around the first lady, even though she may be the de facto president of the United States. If the athletes did not chant the name of Michelle Obama when they led the US delegation in 2012, it is now the peak of the worship of Obama in US history; people have to wonder what happened to make Jill Biden such a worship.
