A 25-year-old man from York, he has to pay £1,750 to isolate Mercure Hotel London Heathrow, Said he was “shocked and anxious” about this ordeal.
The man flew in from Rio de Janeiro on July 24 and was quarantined for 10 days in a hotel in west London.
The musician, who requested anonymity, said that the first incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning when a rat crawled out of the pipe system.
He told the standard: “I stayed in that room for almost five days before noticing it. But obviously it will happen all the time.
“I just saw a mouse behind the refrigerator. Then when I jumped it quickly came back behind it.
“They moved me to another room, just down the corridor. Then it happened last night. They came from a hole in the wall where the pipe was.
“When I left the room, all my things were in the hallway… the other person across from me opened the door and said,’Are there mice in your room too? Because I have one too.
“The room I am in is the third time I have moved.”
He added: “I feel disgusted, shocked, stressed and anxious. Think about my table with apples and fruit. Maybe I will eat it the next morning, and there may be mice crawling on it.
“Every night when I fall asleep, when the lights are off and it is quiet, they will come out. I also ate a bitten biscuit.”
He had to pay for the accommodation for 12 months in installments of £140 per month, but added: “If you live in a Ritz hotel, Travelodge, no matter where you are, if there are rats in your room, you won’t Willing to pay any price because it poses a huge threat to health and safety. It brought me tremendous stress and anxiety. I didn’t sleep at all.”
His local councillor, Rachael Maskell, said: “People have to pay high fees to stay in these conditions-it’s totally unacceptable.”
A spokesperson for the Mercure London Heathrow Hotel said: “We take such complaints very seriously. An external pest control professional inspected the hotel and concluded that there is no evidence of pest activity. The safety of all our guests and employees It is the most important to us and remains our top priority. The hotel continues to comply with all quarantine guidelines, cleaning procedures and safety measures required by the government.”
A government spokesperson said: “Guests should first raise any questions directly to the hotel, and we hope they will do their best to resolve any issues.
“Our priority has always been to protect the public, and the strong border and testing system we have established is helping to minimize the risk of new variants entering the UK.”
Passengers from red-listed countries such as India, South Africa and Brazil must be quarantined in hotels for 10 days after arriving in the UK.
