Design and Features

The Acebeam Rider RX EDC AA flashlight is small, but don’t let its size fool you. It’s about as long as your hand, but houses a really nice LED inside.

The samples Acebeam sent were the silver version, but the Rider RX is also available in grey, iridescent and blue. I like silver because I like the look of clean machined metal. However, they all look very pretty.

I’ll go straight to the gadget features that Acebeam has integrated into this light. The mechanical sliding mechanism slides back and forth, with a satisfying mechanical ball bearing pawl at each end of the motion. This fidgeting mechanism not only relieves stress and anxiety, but also provides protection for the tail switch. This feature also provides a flat surface for placing the light on the tailstock for use as a candle.

I like this feature because I often keep the flashlight in my pocket or bag, where the light could be subject to the force of accidentally turning it on. The last thing you want is a dead light when you need it.

The two-way stainless steel pocket clip is great and offers multiple ways to attach the light to any bag, pocket, hat or belt you use. The clips are held in place with two screws, which you might be able to remove, but that might defeat the waterproofing, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Acebeam Rider RX EDC AA torch has four brightness levels and an SOS mode. It also includes a memory function that remembers the last brightness level (except in SOS mode). Half-pressing the tail switch cycles through the brightness levels, and double-clicking the tail switch quickly initiates SOS mode. The tail switch has a nice click and is easier to find than a flashlight with a side button.

Powered by a 14500 USB-C Li-Ion battery:

ultra low 7 lumens; 53 hours
low 70 lumens; 3 hours 8 minutes
middle 280 lumens; 60 minutes
High 650 lumens-450 lumens-330 lumens; 2 minutes + 6 minutes + 55 minutes
South 450 lumens; 60 minutes

The rechargeable battery has a USB-C port on the side for charging, and an LED lights up to indicate charging and charging status. Red is charging, green is fully charged. I really like the ability to use AA batteries as a backup since you don’t always have time to fully charge them. You may also need extra power during a prolonged power outage.

red LED = charging
Green LED = fully charged

The aluminum alloy body and stainless steel case look durable and definitely withstand 1 meter of impact, I tested it on a concrete floor.

what do I like

  • Very bright, but also has a nice low mode
  • I like the option to use AA batteries
  • The swipe function is great

what would i change

final thoughts

Overall, the Acebeam Rider RX EDC AA is a decent flashlight. I like that the ultra-low setting isn’t too bright and helps maintain night vision while providing enough light to see what you’re doing.
