Acer SpatialLabs View Announces Glasses-Free 3D Display for Gaming and Content Creation

Sharing is caring!

Acer is going all out with its SpatialLabs stereoscopic 3D product. We had the ConceptD 7 laptop last year, and Acer just announced Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition Gaming Laptop.

Acer is also rolling out the technology into monitors. There are two options: Acer SpatialLabs View for personal entertainment and Acer SpatialLabs View Pro for business audiences. Both are standalone 15.6-inch 4K monitors that can be connected to another PC to provide users with portable access to the SpatialLabs Experience Suite.

SpatialLabs TrueGame — One-Click Stereoscopic 3D Gaming

Gamers and creators alike will love the range’s lightweight design (less than 1.5kg/3.3lbs), which can easily slip into a bag for LAN parties or product presentations. Creators in particular can count on 100% Adobe RGB color gamut coverage, but gamers will also appreciate the 400 nits of brightness on these devices.

Space Lab View

You might be wondering how the new SpatialLabs 3D monitors work with games.

This is done with SpatialLabs TrueGame and a new one-click app that supports 3D games.

Acer sounds like this should be an easy process for gamers, and easy to do for most modern games.

Games are mostly created with three dimensions in mind: developers include information about depth in each scene and the objects they build. SpatialLabs uses this existing information to render the game in stereoscopic 3D. Over 50 modern and classic games are available with dedicated pre-configured 3D profiles for each game to provide players with a seamless experience of their favorite games, and profiles for other games will continue to be added forward .

I don’t know how time-consuming it is to create these 3D profiles, or if Acer plans to roll it out for as many games as possible.

Acer recommends that a lot of work goes into optimizing each platform, and the platforms themselves are very user-friendly.

After launching the TrueGame app, users simply navigate to the game they want to play and press “play”. The application will do the rest, automatically launching the necessary game files on the user’s system and activating the title’s associated TrueGame 3D profile to launch the game in stereoscopic 3D.

SpatialLabs Go — convert 2D content to stereoscopic 3D content

Acer’s proprietary solution, SpatialLabs Go, uses AI technology to generate stereoscopic 3D content from almost anything that can be displayed full screen at the touch of a button. Photos pop off the screen, simple web games become more exciting, and videos (online or offline) present another level of immersion in real time. Perhaps most importantly, you can generate your own content by taking some photos or videos with the device, and once the assets are imported into the system, you can use SpatialLabs Go to generate simulated stereoscopic 3D images.

SpatialLabs Model Viewer – a more intuitive way to create in 3D

SpatialLabs View Professional Edition

Acer SpatialLabs View Pro is designed to make life easier for creators. To that end, out-of-the-box support for all major file formats, including new support for Datasmith, means creators can use 3D design software such as Revit, Solidworks, and Cinema 4D by installing the Datasmith export plugin: project ready View, which can be imported into the SpatialLabs Model Viewer. Sketchfab integration further simplifies the creation process, giving users access to a vast online library of free and premium 3D assets that can be used in their own projects. Because color accuracy is critical to design work, the View Pro’s 15.6-inch 4K display covers 100 percent of the Adobe RGB color gamut.

However, SpatialLabs View Pro is not just a tool for creating 3D assets, it also provides developers with multiple ways to share and present their creations:

  • Content can be quickly loaded for sharing – whether it’s getting feedback from colleagues in the office or providing clients with a realistic visualization of a project they’re interested in
  • Those working in sales or marketing will appreciate the Acer SpatialLabs View Pro’s slim, portable design: at less than 1.5 kg (3.3 lb), it’s easy to carry, and the foldable stand lets you set up shop almost anywhere
  • When situations call for a more permanent setup, VESA mounts easily secure Acer SpatialLabs View Pro to kiosks and point-of-sale displays, while Ultraleap gesture recognition allows customers to enjoy a more interactive experience

Like previous SpatialLabs devices, Acer SpatialLabs View Pro includes several additional add-ons to improve the workflow of 3D creators. Creations can be taken from 3D software and launched with one click in the SpatialLabs Model Viewer. Additionally, Maya and Blender users can connect and edit on the 2D screen while watching their changes rendered into stereoscopic 3D on Acer SpatialLabs View Pro – all simultaneously and in real-time.
