I was surprised to find that I spent most of my time in my basement reading a lot. Airthings would have saved my life very well as radon can cause lung cancer over time.Since reviewing Wave, I have reviewed Airthings Wave PlusThis Airthings Wave Mini. Now that I have an Airthings View Plus to check out, let’s take a look.
What is it?
Airthings View Plus is a device with sensors that detect Radon, Particulate Matter (PM), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Humidity, Temperature, Airborne Chemicals (VOCs) and Barometric Pressure. The View Plus also doubles as a hub to connect other Airthings sensors so you can check levels when you’re away from home.

Design and Features
The Airthings View Plus device measures 17cm (L) x 9cm (H) x 3.3cm (W) and has a white plastic housing with an LCD on the front. You can mount the Airthings View Plus on a wall or place it on a table.
Above the display is a motion sensor that detects when you wave your hand in front of the device, then toggles to reveal more information. I’ll explain more about this below.
The Airthings View Plus has a magnetic cover on the back that lifts up to access the battery compartment.
The device comes pre-installed with a battery that is expected to last up to 2 years. You can also power it with a USB-C cable. The USB-C port is located between the top row of batteries.
The Airthings View Plus has a rubber or silicone base on the bottom that allows it to stand upright on a shelf or table if you decide not to mount it on the wall.
Using the View Plus is as simple as placing it on a shelf or mounting it on a wall and waiting for it to show radon levels, etc. For the first 7 days it will calibrate the sensor, so it will show very inaccurate information, but once the calibration phase is over, you can always see the radon level and PM level just by looking at the display.
When you wave your hand in front of the View Plus, it displays additional levels of importance, which change depending on the situation. Most of the time I just see the “Your air is fine” screen and a green LED to let me know the air in my home is good.
But sometimes I see warning screens with yellow or even red LEDs.Seeing warning screens here and there isn’t a big deal, but if it persists for more than 24 hours or more, it’s best to find out which might include using air purifier.
Airthings app
The Airthings mobile app provides far more information than the built-in display on the View Plus. As you can see in the first screenshot, the app shows all your Airthings devices. You can then drill down to the details of each individual device. There is an overview screen followed by separate screens for each data type including Radon, PM, CO2, Humidity, Temperature, VOC and Pressure.
The app enables you to view trends by viewing a graph of the past 48 hours of data or by week, month or even year. You can also tap the graph with your finger to see the reading for that point on the graph.
The Airthings app also has a feature that allows you to toggle notifications when a data type’s threshold exceeds the standard.
You can get more data by logging into the Airthings Dashboard on the web, where you can see an overview of all Airthings devices.
You can also click on each data type to see daily, weekly, monthly and yearly graphs, and you can even click on a graph to see exact date and time information.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I am Airthings Wave Radon Detector Could have saved my life. I’m not exaggerating because radon gas can cause cancer over long periods of time and in high concentrations. Having survived breast cancer back in 2011, I’ve been trying to prevent any kind from happening. When I found out how high the radon levels in my basement were getting, I ended up installing a radon fix in my basement to remove the radon and reduce the levels.

final thoughts
I did this review of the Airthings View Plus, mostly interested in the radon levels on the upper main floor of my home, but I’ve seen how certain other appliances in the main floor of my home can affect the air quality. For example, I’ve noticed that when I cook with a gas stove on the main floor of my house, very close to where the Airthings View Plus is located, the View Plus sometimes reports higher levels of CO2, PM (particulate matter), and volatile organic compounds . No, I didn’t burn my food! I am a good cook 🙂 (usually). The point is that many things can affect the air quality in your home, and Airthings View Plus will give you the information you need to make changes (if needed) to improve the air you breathe. If you don’t know, I’m a big fan of their products.
