ASUS GT-AXE16000 is a crazy quad-band Wi-Fi 6E router with two 10Gbps and one 2.5Gbps Ethernet

Sharing is caring!

At CES 2022, Netgear launched the latest RAXE300 Wi-Fi 6E router, This is the more affordable version of last year RAXE500On the other hand, Asustek went the other way, launching the consumer-centric router with the highest specifications on the market.

The new ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 is a quad-band Wi-Fi 6E router that uses two 5Ghz frequency bands and inserts one 2.4Ghz and 6Ghz frequency bands.

What is the significance of quad-band Wi-Fi 6E?

They are not the first company to implement quad-band technology.Netgear launched RBKE960 Orbi Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System Last year, you could pre-order a three-piece system for a sky-high price of £1,500.

Netgear gives you an in-depth understanding of the meaning of the quad-band system. With Wi-Fi 6e, if you want the best performance, you will need three frequency bands, one for each frequency band is fully available to the client. Then the spare 5Ghz frequency band can be used for the mesh backhaul channel.

Asus has been using AiMesh on their routers for a long time, so I assume that when paired with other Asus routers for mesh systems, the 5Ghz frequency band will be used.

In addition to having four frequency bands, each frequency band has a 4×4 radio, most home users will not benefit from it, but if you have many people using Wi-Fi at the same time, this helps maintain the overall speed. The backhaul channel will also be beneficial because it will use all 4 streams to connect at a speed of 4804Mbps.

Multiple multi-Gigabit Ethernet ports

One of my biggest complaints about all these fancy Wi-Fi 6 routers is the limited availability of over Gigabit Ethernet ports.

You usually only get one port that is usually designated as a WAN port.

Not from Asus. They have a single 2.5GbE WAN port, which is faster than any fiber optic products currently available in the UK, and not many international suppliers exceed 2.5Gbps.

Then, you will have two 10Gbps ports, giving you the opportunity to build a proper multi-gigabit network.

ASUS even allows you to configure any or all ports to be used as a WAN, providing extensive load balancing and failover support.

processor

Because of the potentially huge Wi-Fi throughput, you also need a processor that can handle it. ASUS uses a 2.0 GHz quad-core 64-bit CPU, 1GB RAM and 256MB flash memory.

Router function

Like most ASUS Rog routers, you can use multiple functions, including AiProtection Pro and Instant Guard. Game Boost’s adaptive quality of service allows you to easily prioritize game traffic just by clicking the toggle button. The integrated gamer VPN technology connects the GT-AXE16000 to the game server through an optimized route to reduce latency.

ASUS Rog Rapture GT-AX11000 Pro

ASUS also released the low-spec GT-AX11000 Pro.This is almost the same as the old one GT-AX11000 But you can now get dual 10Gbps LAN ports and faster CPUs and 1GB DDR4 SDRAM instead of DDR3.

Price and availability

Asustek expects ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 to be released in the first quarter of 2022 at a price of US$649, while ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 Pro is scheduled to be released in the second quarter and is priced at US$399.

No news about availability in the UK

The original GT-AX11000 was launched on Amazon.com for US$449, and is currently priced at £389.99 on Amazon in the UK.
