AWO Wiesbaden accused of defrauding millions of dollars

DIt is said that the Wiesbaden Regional Workers’ Welfare Association (AWO) deceived the AWO Regional Association in Frankfurt with millions of euros in false personnel expense accounts. According to the district association, the loss amounted to 3.2 million euros. The beneficiary was the Wiesbaden district association, which was then led by Hannell Richter, wife of Frankfurt AWO boss Jurgen Richter. Therefore, the Wiesbaden Regional Association was paid for deliberately providing false accounts for employees who were not employed there. This kind of fraud is possible because the factual accuracy of the invoice is not checked.

According to Frankfurt AWO, two accounting employees were dismissed without notice and criminal charges were brought against them and three others. AWO Frankfurt inspects whether damages can be claimed. In total, it is said that due to the business activities of Wiesbaden AWO, the losses caused to the Frankfurt Regional Association are approximately 4 million euros. It has been known in practice that so-called donations are paid for so-called temporary employees to avoid sales tax, which caused the loss of approximately 800,000 people.

For Steffen Krollmann, CEO of Frankfurt AWO, the new thing is that the system may be bigger. Among other things, employees in Frankfurt were reported to be employees of Wiesbaden and paid more than the amount agreed in the contract. FAZ’s Krollmann said: “I was surprised by the amount and guts of the destruction.” People with “obedience” actively assisted the system. “You may have seen it,” Krollman said. The loss was caused only by the Frankfurt Regional Association, which generates approximately 5 million euros in rental income each year. The money is paid from this pot.
