Review -Living in southern Texas means that we do tend to spend a lot of time in the water. We spend time in boats on our lakes and paddling in our rivers. I also spend some time introducing my car in detail. I have learned the hard way that wearing flip flops to wash a car can cause ankle sprains. When you work around the car, the flip flops get wet and your feet slip off the back of your shoes. When these shoes were reviewed, I was very interested. They seem to be better able to stay standing while still protecting their bottoms from hazardous materials on the ground. When I test them in my home and surrounding areas, let’s see how these are resolved.
What is it?
Baresocks 2.0 is an ultra-portable shoe designed to simulate barefoot walking, but still protect the soles of the feet from ground hazards.They look like sock It is also designed to quickly become wet and dry, weighing only 150 grams, which is ultra-lightweight.
What’s in the box?
In the package, I received two large pairs of Baresocks. I took photos of the front and back of the packaging that came with the shoes.

Design and features
In the picture above, you can see a pair of Baresocks. The light gray with black straps and cuff areas are made from recycled CoolMax yarn. There is a beautiful cuff on the back, allowing you to easily put on and take off your socks. The black band in the middle allows the socks to hug your arch, which I find is a very good feature. This really helps the socks stay in place when they are on my feet.
This is a close-up of the cuff. The black around the cuffs is double thick, which can remove the socks well. When I pulled it, I didn’t feel it was stretched.
Next, I took a photo of the forefoot where the sole meets the CoolMax material. Two different materials are fused together. There is no stitching. I like how the soles wrap the sides of your feet to provide better protection.
Here I took a close-up of the sole. It is a textured natural rubber that can grip the surface well.
Finally, the picture on the back of the cuff. As I said before, the cuff seems to be a double layer of CoolMax material. You can see a small part of the line sticking out on the right side. I was able to trim it off and didn’t get any extra cords. Of the four socks we received, only one had extra thread on it.
Performance
Now according to the size chart on the website, I should be able to wear one size bigger because I have a size 9.5 women’s shoe. The socks seem a bit big to me because I have some material on them. Then I asked my husband to try on these plus sizes, even though he was wearing a men’s size 11 and should be XL. You can see in the picture below that the socks seem to suit him very well.
I wore these socks and walked my dog on the streets, sidewalks, and short trails. I also wear them to wash the car. Wear them on a surface without stones or any protruding objects, and they perform well. My feet have never moved on them, although it seems that I am playing a little with the materials on them. They dry within a few hours when the humidity in our home is 49%. My only problem was when I walked over a stone or hose in the driveway while washing the car.
I admit that my feet are very sensitive. I also have a high arch and neuroma on my right foot. Working in my car without really paying attention to where I walk means I often step on the hose of my high pressure washer or garden hose. That hurts! The soles of these shoes are no more than 2 mm thick. When I walked a little bit on the small road near us, I lasted about two minutes and had to go back to the street. We have a lot of rocky (think about a lot of small rocks about 2 inches and rough caliche) soil, and the soles of my feet are screaming at me. I also found that without any arch support, when I washed the car in a few hours, my feet would sore.
what do I like
- Very gripping sole. I have never encountered a problem of slipping on wet cement or tiles.
- The shoes stay on my feet and will not move even if they are wet.
- They are very light and very suitable for use in a kayak or on a stand-up paddle board.
Areas for improvement
- See if they can provide a version of the shoe with a slightly thicker sole to provide more protection on rugged ground. They mentioned an insole on their website, but I couldn’t find it.
- I think their size chart is a bit too big. Maybe buy one size smaller than you think you need.
Final thoughts
I will continue to use these when I wash and refine my car. I hope my feet will become more accustomed after a while. The fact that I will not slip in it is a huge advantage for me. I also plan to use these when I clean the pool and quickly enter our yard with the dog. I might also look around for waterproof insoles that can be used in shoes. I think if your feet are not sensitive (hell, someone on their website is wearing these shoes for climbing!) or if you want to walk on flat terrain, these shoes will work well. Unfortunately, the bottoms of all the rivers and lakes here are rocks. If I want to wear them on any shoes, I definitely need to find insoles that fit these shoes. I also want to mention that I think this pair of shoes fits better on my feet than any other water shoes I have used in the past. The whole shoe fits your foot, which really helps it stay in place.
