These two billionaires flew into space a few days apart, and they were the first people to fly into space with their own space company. In order to give his flight history symbolic meaning, Bezos chose the anniversary of the first moon landing. Branson started his journey earlier, ahead of Bezos. Both see their space journey not only as a personal adventure, but as a pioneer in space tourism. What they experienced should soon be understood by a wider range of people. At some point, space travel will become very common.

In particular, Bezos is accused of putting himself in a suspicious position to fund this extravagant project, including tax breaks or employees of Amazon, an online retailer he recently ran, who often complain about poor working conditions. Perhaps the strongest objection is that as the fight against climate change becomes more urgent, Bezos and Branson and their companies Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic are trying to usher in an interesting era of space travel. They decorate themselves with personal climate initiatives, but there is no convincing answer to how space tourism can be coordinated with these initiatives.
